1st XI vs Willingdon CC - Sat 21st May
After a delayed start due to rain Borderers opening bowlers started well, with Dos Freeman (9-1-31-2) dismissing one of the Willingdon opening batsman with only his second ball and Dan Heuston keeping things tight at the other end (11-3-22-1). Dos struck again soon after but a 3rd wicket partnership of 75 steaded the ship for Willingdon. Up step father and son duo of Nick Edwards (16-2-55-1) and Josh Moor (14-5-34-3) to rip through the middle order to keep the hosts down to a very get able but tricky target of 156 on a difficult surface.
The chase started well with overseas Heuston scoring a brisk 16 before giving catching practice to the Willingdon close fielders. Tom West soon followed for a second ball duck after 'seeing the first ball like a football'. It was down to the Geoffrey Boycott of the team Ross Jefferies to anchor the innings along with support from skipper Ben Edwards (11) and Chris Greenall (35). Just after the half way stage Borderers found themselves behind the run rate but Rob Teague came and did what Rob Teague does best and a quick fire 30 and TWBCC were favourites to complete the chase. With 4 runs an over still needed Ross Jefferies calmed all nerves and edged the ball through the slips 3 times in a row for some very welcome boundaries! This left Borderers only needing 4 off the last 3 overs and it was down to Nick Edwards (10*) to hit the winning runs with a huge 6 over mid wicket and deny Ross Jefferies (49*) of his maiden 50 for TWBCC!
Borderers had won the game and with it their first victory of the season! Borderers are back at St Marks this weekend looking to continue their winning run against Isfield.
